Eastoe River PFD Feb. 19, 2006

Ran the Eastoe after church. It starts off with a flat valley and the river winds threw it for about a mile in this mile there is probably 7 logjams 4 of them you have to portage around. The gorge starts when the power lines come across the river right at the start of the gorge is Kayak Killer V. I portaged it and so did my dad. Almost all of the water in the rapid runs into the RL undurcut. The rest of the river is class II-III and is actualy fairly boring at this lvl. There are 2 more trees that your have to portage around. I did my roll in this boat for the first time (it wasnt a combat role though). The next time I do this I may Just hike in from the Powerlines farthest up the river to skip the flat part. The lvl. was 14 cfs on the S. Saluda gage and is runnable but way to low in my opinion (The South S. is dam controlled so this lvl. hardly ever changes when it is very low).

Little River (Fr. Trib.) Feb. 11, 2006

Came up to Dupont with about 3in of snow on the ground, very pretty. Just ran from the bridge down to Hooker. I liked my new boat I got to try out some high braces and the feel for it. Ran Hooker 3 times my dad ran it twice and on the 2nd time he flipped and some reason his leg was out of his brace so his roll didnt work. He swam.

Riot Sniper Feb. 10 2006

Bought a Riot Sniper. Thats about it.

Little Eastoe Feb. 4, 2006

Ran the Green Wave IV 4 or 5 times and so did my dad. A very low lvl maybe 60 cfs but the pillow kept me away from the undercut on RL.

Pyranah Prozone 230 Dec. 25 2005-Feb. 1, 2006

I sold my boat. That pretty much it.

Little River (Fr. Trib) PFD Jan. 30, 2006

Went up to Dupont after church. When we got up there we saw 2 other boaters in the parking lot it turned out to be Todd, who use to go to our church, and Mike, who got a job guy that my dad new in AZ. Triple Falls is a 30ft first falls V 35ft middle falls V and a 60ft last falls V+. I watched them do the first two falls and then my dad and I decided to run the middle one. I ran down the farthest left spot I could be and just stayed straight. My dad went a bit right of where i went. It was realy difficult to get in the main flow of the water because it was moving so fast where i put in it pust me on the rocks. Mike scouted and ran last falls and in the middle of it he spun around. We all opted out on that ride. Then came down to Hooker IV and ran it twice. Fun day.

Cullasaja PFD and scouted Chauga Narrows Jan. 11, 2006

Went up to the Cullasaja it was hot with a blistering high of 29 and snowing with 60mph winds. Scouted the middle section then went down to Cullasaja falls, what a beutiful falls. Went back to the middle section to run it. The river has some class III boogie before First Ledge. On the First Ledge IV, an eight foot waterfall on RL and slide/boof on RR, I ran the middle right slide into a boof not to much longer down the river is Second Ledge IV, same lay out but with a rock to piton into in middle, I hit the line i wanted perfectly, RR, but I found some rocks at the bottom of the pool. There is some more boogie with a tree in one of the rapids so run that one on RR. I took out at T-bone because it was to low to run it because of all the potholes in the line and also has a tree in the RR line for the first to small ledges.

Tried to check out Triple Falls on the Cully but found I couldnt get down there easily because of the snow. Also went to the Overflow put in.

Got to the Chauga River and decided to check out the Narrows. The First Falls IV is a 10ft not to clean but straight drop. Could maybe run RL straight down or RR which is a boof onto a slide. In about 15 ft is The Chute V which is pretty much a 4ft crack in the rock that probably drops about 10-15ft but the water is just blasting threw and would be realy bad to flip there. The Third Slide III should be run RR or middle. Some people told me that it was illegal to boat The Narrows but I dont believe them.

Little Eastoe Jan. 2, 2006

Ran the Little Eastoe after some hard rain. Its a good short run with lots of action with 180 fpm but the run is only 1/3 of a mile if your taking out at longshoals park. It has fairly clean bedrock rapids. The first rapid is Chelie III and I ran it middle. The next rapid is Face Crusher III which I ran middle also. The 3rd rapid is Truck Stop IV which is ran in the only clear channel which is two realy fast s-turns there maybe micro eddy at the end of the rapid but usualy not. In this rapid there are many piton rocks and pillows off those rocks that you'll have to bank off of. The channel is only about 5 ft wide here. Between the bottom of this rapid and the next there may not be any eddys. The next rapid is Green Wave IV which is a realy fast slide with most of the water slaming into a RL undercut. This rapid is either run on the RL undercut's pillow or RR using waves to push you away from the undercut. This slide ends in a good sized hole.

My secret rapid Dec. 28, 2005

Went on a mountain biking trip and I found a waterfall I want to run at high water it probably would be a first descent. ( :

Chattooga River sec. III Dec. 26, 2005

Ran the section from Thrifts to Woodall. There is alot of good play on this section. I walked around bull i should of ran it I dont know why I didnt. At screaming left turn III i got surfed for a second on the pillow but finished the rest fine. Rock jumble III I ran right next to the rooster tail and hit rock for a second which kinda hurt my feet. I ran the sneek III+ at woodall shoals of corse and hit a rock a bit harder and hurt my feet again.

Davidson and Looking Glass

Had no internet because of a huge ice storm but found out later that week that it was running at 1.4 ft and the min is 2 ft. Put in below whalesback III+ was very scrapy and piton rocks everywhere. My dad got pinned above breakfast lunch and dinner III lost a rope and a chaco that wouldnt have been bad except there was snow on the ground.FUN

We went over Looking Glass to run sliding rock. I saw a kayakers truck at the take out which leads me to believe even more that it can be run super low but they could have been scouting. I did sliding rock twice the first time I did a 270 but landed up right it was accidental because I forgot how to handle long slides like that. The second time was perfect and I skipped across the pool and had to take a hard turn to miss the rock at the bottom.FUN

Little River (French Broad trib.) PFD and Scouted Davidson and Looking Glass Dec. 3, 2005

I hiked up to the base of triple falls and went from there. One rapid above Rail Slide caught me off guard becuase a whirlpool kinda thing. Rail Slide, class III, is an odd shaped slide on far RR is a flume and while sliding there is a little ledge 2-3 feet to the left. Drop off this ledge when nearing the end of the flume.
The next rapid sizeable rapid is Schiqoprenia, class IV, this is a pretty tight rock garden which i ran on RR then to a lil 3 ft. boof on middle right then finished on RR again. There is another small rock garden right before the bridge which is floated on RL to not leave plastic on the rocks. I usualy gage the run by the rock that can be a little 3 ft boof just right of the main channel. There is a quater mile of class I-II boogie until hooker, class IV which is a 15 footer it is realy hard to see the horizon line of this drop this drop should be run RL of middle left because theres a rock on RR or middle right which could break your back.

I checked out davidson river which is super tight and creeky non stop boulder gardeny stuff with some bedrock but needs some water.

Looking Glass looks fun and tight it may beable to be done at low water because it looks bedrockish but i am not realy sure because i did not see the rest of the run.

Reedy Cove Creek Nov. 25, 2005

This is just below twin falls and it may be a first descent maybe not I dont no. It was realy low and just scraped by just below twin falls is a long 150 ft chute. It was only class III but may be funner at higher water. The rest was not in such a narrow channel and was more of a class II-III boulder garden did not run any of that. This is near Estatoe.
